The fifth release of NICE TRY RECORDS comes from Cork/Irland based artist ROMART.

Firmly focussed on the dancefloor, the three-tracker is highly percussive and sample-ridden at heart. It’s a record where a sense of drama comes naturally, so to speak – be it the crackle of thunder in “Thundercloud” or the brooding atmosphere in “Out in the weather”. While the Irish landscape is never far away, it’s the frenetic high-pitch of a child’s voice that informs the energy of title track “Dramatic Disposition”. Techno with a pulse and heart and a twist!

Bassbüro a.k.a. Thomas Ingold and his partner Björn Müller are long-year resident DJ´s and promoters at Hive Club in Zurich and come around the corner with a smooth debut on Hive Audio.

The title could not be any more designative, as with “This Is Not House Music” we have a knotless and outstanding 90´s number with lots of pathos and – declaredly – they´ve looked over the shoulders of some big protagonists from France. When the vocoder chords are crossing swords with this insane bassline, every raver´s heart beats at least one octave higher. This is the tune for a perfect sunrise and big feelings on the floor.

On the flip we have Gruber & Nürnberg, some good pals of Bassbüro that played in Hive several times as well – they contribute a complete antipole to the the original. Almost a bit trancey, they spin the chords over a straight Old School House groove, never let the basic spirit of the original out of sight and though don´t forget to leave their very own traces on this remix.

In addition we have a digital exclusive bonus track, that certainly does not deserve the rating “House Music” – let´s call it rather fidget than deep. But be sure, “It´s All Gone” will blow your mind.

As a very special bonus, vinyl customers will find a voucher for a free MP3 download with their copy. With this voucher, every buyer of a vinyl copy will be able to download all the tracks from the release plus another bonus track for free!

Gregorythme’s bio claims he is not a tool-maker. The producer’s Futurama EP seems to provide ample evidence for this claim, despite what you might think of his ultra-tracky work as one-half of Digitaline. Gregory Poncet, as his parents call him, provides concrete compositions here: “Futurama” has a remarkably clean lead melody that would sound tired if it didn’t bounce with so much warmth. Full of optimism, it leads neatly into “Summer,” which has the same sort of Olympian feel, but gives it a hint of funk to keep it from sounding too sanitized. “Walking on Balls,” meanwhile slides a creaking acoustic sample of what might be a rocking chair grinding into the floor—or someone walking on balls—as Tigerlily sings a haltingly beautiful tune.

Each track here is defined by two things: cleanliness—balls aside—and their song structure. Gregorythme’s downtempo house here is built for the warm-up or the come-down. Unconcerned with fitting in with anything other than itself, it’s remarkably reminiscent of “a 1970′s idea of the soundtrack to the future,” as Lee Jones put it in his DJ feedback. Barem and Kabale und Liebe & Julien Chaptal arrive for remix duty, taking “Summer” into their own hands. Barem only slightly refits the tune, making it a tad darker and focusing things squarely on a descending synth line, while the Amsterdam duo find the club bounce hidden in the original. Both are nice enough, but this EP is clearly all about Gregorythme, and he steals the show.
